San Diego Green Building Council Announces Programs for “San Diego Green Week,” Oct. 15-20
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Green Building Council (SDGBC) has announced a series of events to be held Oct. 15 through Oct. 20 for “San Diego Green Week.” Programs are designed for both industry professionals as well as members of the general public with the goal of inspiring and educating San Diegans about environmental sustainability for the built environment.
Climate LEEDers in Action (Tuesday, Oct. 15) – Playing off the name of the world’s most widely recognized green building certification, (LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), this half-day event will bring together local government and university sustainability leaders to discuss challenges and successes in implementing energy strategies, identifying decarbonization pathways and pursuing green building certifications. The event will include tours of two City of Chula Vista facilities, including City Hall and the Public Works Center, that have implemented verified sustainable operations, as well as an SDG&E Ride & Drive event for attendees to test drive electric vehicles.
2019 Conference & Expo (Friday, Oct. 18) – Now in its seventh year, this has become San Diego’s premier green building gathering, growing to over 250 attendees and 30 expert speakers. The program will include a keynote address from Dr. Veerabhadran Ramanathan, an Edward A. Friedman endowed presidential chair in climate sustainability from the Scripps Institute of Oceanography at UC San Diego. The full-day event will include 12 world-class educational sessions covering topics such as Net Zero (carbon, energy and water), health and wellness, and resiliency and adaptation planning. The event will also feature an Expo showcasing regional sustainability companies and SDGBC’s second annual Sustainability Awards program, recognizing exceptional leadership and sustainable projects in San Diego.
10th Annual San Diego Green Homes Tour (Saturday, Oct. 19 and Sunday, Oct. 20) – In response to growing public interest in the green building movement, this popular tour of local residences has been expanded to two full days. More than a dozen projects will be featured at sites all over San Diego County, including homes with LEED, GreenPoint Rated and Net Zero Energy certifications, strawbale wall construction, innovative energy and water conservation strategies, off-grid capability, water-wise gardens and certified backyard wildlife habitats. More information about the Tour and featured homes can be found at www.sdgreenhomestour.org.
“We’re proud to expand our programming this year to showcase even more of the outstanding work being done in the sustainability community here in San Diego,” said Executive Director Josh Dean. “We will have something for everyone, whether you’re an industry insider, an academic, a home or business owner, or simply interested in the green building movement in general. We hope people will find inspiration, insights and actionable information that can help us all move forward as a region toward true sustainability.”
