“Fall” in Love with Wolves with Seasonal Guest Experiences at the California Wolf Center in Julian

JULIAN, CALIF. – The California Wolf Center (CWC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to the recovery of wolves in the wild, will host several Fall-themed specialty tours of its Julian conservation center as families head to the popular mountain destination for apple season and Fall fun. This “hidden gem” in Julian is a one-of-a-kind conservation, education and research facility, currently home to 29 wolves in six packs, including four Northwestern gray wolves and 25 Mexican gray wolves, the most endangered wolf sub-species and one of the rarest land mammals on earth. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the critical role wolves play in the ecosystem and how conservation organizations like CWC are working together to bring wild wolves back from the brink of extinction and helping them safely co-exist with humans in their shared landscapes. CWC’s upcoming Fall tours include: Apple Days Enrichment Tours – Due to the popularity of last year’s tours, additional dates have been added for 2023. CWC will offer special enrichment tours on September 16, 23 and 24 in which guests will have the unique opportunity to toss apple-based enrichment items to the ambassador wolves.

Howl-o-Ween Tours – On October 28 and 29, CWC will host its third annual Howl-O-Ween tours. Ambassador wolves will be treated to special Halloween-themed enrichment items like pumpkins, all in a fun, spooky setting. Costumes are welcome.

Wolf Tours in Spanish (New!) – In order to share its conservation message with additional audiences, CWC will begin offering its wolf conservation tours in Spanish this Fall. The "Recorrido de la Conservation de Lobos" tours will be offered on the first Sunday of each month.

Note: Advanced reservations are required to visit CWC’s conservation facility, located 4.5 miles from downtown Julian. Public guided tours are offered Friday through Monday, and private group tours are available on weekdays.

Additional CWC guest experiences this Fall include:

Wolf Myths & Legends Webinar – Just in time for Wolf Awareness Week (October 15-21) and to get everyone in the Halloween spirit, CWC will host a special edition of its ongoing webinar series entitled “Wolf Myths & Legends" on October 17. The fun and informative event will delve into wolf myths and legends from around the world, explore humankind’s attitudes about one of history's most enigmatic predators, and discover why we have such a complicated relationship with the wolf.

Visitor Center & Nature Store – While browsing Main Street and indulging in Julian’s famous pies, be sure to stop by CWC’s storefront Visitor Center and Nature Store, located at 2775 B Street. Visitors will find exhibits on wolf biology and ecology, information about conservation partnerships that support wolf recovery in the wild, and unique wildlife gift items available for purchase, including lots of Fall-themed selections to commemorate your trip. Visitors can also sign up for guided tours of the conservation facility at this location.

“We all know that Fall is the perfect time to explore Julian, as the days shorten, the weather cools off and the colors start to change,” said Executive Director Theresa Kosen. “Whether you’re a local or a visitor, a tour of the California Wolf Center is a great addition to your Julian trip, offering a rare opportunity to experience wolves up close and learn more about these incredible, but often misunderstood, creatures and what is being done to help protect them. For animal-lovers, this is a unique addition to your bucket list and an experience you won’t find anywhere else.”
