San Diego Museum Month Returns for 33rd Year in February
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Museum Council has announced the return of San Diego Museum Month this February. Following a scaled-back and largely virtual version in 2021 due to COVID-19 closures, this signature San Diego program is expected to resume in a more robust iteration as it celebrates its 33rd year promoting San Diego as a vibrant cultural destination. Long-time Museum Month partner Macy’s has returned as the event’s community engagement program sponsor. Major funding is also provided by the California Arts Council, the San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, and the County of San Diego. Enhancing museum accessibility is a critical component of Museum Month. To this end, the San Diego Museum Council has partnered again this year with the Serra Cooperative Library System, enabling access to Museum Month passes for local residents in a wide diversity of neighborhoods and communities across San Diego County. Macy’s sponsorship also provides funding for hundreds of free vouchers for students at Title I schools to participate in Museum Month. “Museum Month is the perfect time to get out and discover something new in San Diego,” said San Diego Museum Council Executive Director Bob Lehman. “Whether it’s exploring a new exhibition at a favorite museum or finding a hidden cultural gem for the first time, there is a reason people look forward to Museum Month every year. There is something for every age and interest, including visual art and design, children and families, science and nature, history, wildlife, military, transportation, music and cultural heritage. How to Participate: The Museum Month pass is available for free at all Macy’s store locations in San Diego County. Each Museum Month pass can be used for up to four half-priced admissions at any of the participating museums. (Additional fees may apply for special exhibitions and events at some museums.) Guests can use their Museum Month pass to visit as many museums as they would like from Feb. 1-28, 2022.
Local residents can pick up Museum Month passes at over 75 public libraries located throughout San Diego County, including branches managed by the following organizations:
