San Diego Museum Council Announces Biggest Museum Month Ever in February 2023
SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Museum Council has announced that San Diego Museum Month will return in February 2023 for its 34th year. The highly anticipated program, which promotes San Diego as a vibrant cultural destination, will be the largest ever – with more than 60 participating museums and other popular destinations throughout San Diego County offering half-priced admissions.
Museum Month 2023 is supported by First 5 San Diego, following a successful collaboration on Kids Free San Diego, which provided access to 85,000 local kids and families last October. Additional funding is provided by the California Arts Council, San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, County of San Diego and The Pecus Group.
Enhancing museum accessibility is a critical component of Museum Month. To this end, the San Diego Museum Council has once again partnered with the Serra Cooperative Library System, offering access to free Museum Month passes for local residents in communities across San Diego County.
“Museum Month is all about getting out and exploring everything that San Diego has to offer,” said San Diego Museum Council Executive Director Bob Lehman. “Whether you’re a local or a visitor, you’ll always find something new each year – from a new exhibition to a hidden neighborhood gem, as well as fun ideas for family day-trips or date-night destinations. In addition to the dozens of venues offering half-off admissions in February, we will be showcasing the many museums that are free year-round, so there really is something for everyone.”
“The best way for children to learn is through hands on experiences and that is exactly what museums allow you to do,” said Alethea Arguilez, Executive Director of First 5 San Diego. “Museum Month provides such a great opportunity for families to get out of the house and engage kids in art, science, music, history and more – and they get to do it together which is vital for the healthy development of children. We hope all families take advantage of half off admission.”
During San Diego Museum Month, residents and visitors enjoy special half-off admission at a diverse range of museums, historic sites, gardens, aquariums and other cultural destinations throughout San Diego County. There is something for every age and interest, including visual art and design, children and families, science and nature, history, wildlife, military, transportation, music and cultural heritage.
How to Participate: The Museum Month pass is available for free at local libraries (with additional pick-up locations to be announced). Each Museum Month pass can be used for up to four half-priced admissions at any of the participating museums. (Additional fees may apply for special exhibitions and events at some museums.) Guests can use their Museum Month pass to visit as many museums as they would like from Feb. 1-28, 2023.
Museum Month passes will be available beginning on January 26 at over 75 public libraries located throughout San Diego County, including branches managed by the following organizations:
